Problems In Jakarta

Jakarta, as any other capital cities of developing countries, faces many problems. High criminality rate is one of them. Many Jakarta citizens say that Jakarta is very unsafe. People got pick pocketed often, robbery also happens all the time, murder also fills the columns of newspapers, and the same thing also goes for rape. Some sociologists and anthropologists say that this thing happens because the congestion in Jakarta. People with low educational background usually loses in the competition of job seeking, some, even many of them will become criminals in order to fill their family’s needs.

The other problem is flood. When it rains in Jakarta, every citizen must be wondering if his/her house will be flooded again. In some areas, the flood even reaches the traffic light. Flood in Jakarta happens because of several things. The primary cause of flood is the garbage that people throw blocks the flow of the river which will make the water concentrated in one area only, the other thing is there are not enough trees in Jakarta. If there are enough trees, they will absorb the excess water above the ground. As you know, there are too many buildings in Jakarta which leaves no land to be grown by trees.

Finally the biggest weakness of Jakarta is pollution. In Jakarta, pollution is a common thing. Air, water, and even sound is polluted. People who throw their garbage carelessly, buses with exhaust pipe which is filled with thick black smoke, the drivers who honks their cars’ horn often, even in religious places, are some contributors of those pollution. Ironically, they confess that they are Jakarta citizens. Can we fix all this mess? I hope so. But we must work together in order to do so.
