Pontianak-A Place to Visit

If you have some spare time to go on vacation, please try to visit Pontianak. Located in the west coast of West Borneo, Pontianak, which is also the capital city of West Borneo, has not only a lot of tourism objects and very delicious food, but also a unique culture that cannot be found at other cities in Indonesia.

Pontianak is a relatively small city, but the size does not make Pontianak petite. It has a number of tourism objects, e.g. Pasir Panjang Beach, Kapuas River, Khatulistiwa Tower, Poteng Mountain, Mandor Park, Rumah Betang, Toho, Anjungan, Sarikan, etc. The most well-known tourism object in Pontianak is Pasir Panjang Beach. With amazing view of the Sumatera’s Strait and some groups of small islands which are located at the strait, Pasir Panjang Beach is a highly recommended place to be visited. Or if you want to know or recall some historical events, you should go to Mandor Park and Khatulistiwa Tower, which have quite complete documents and photographs from 1950.

Pontianak also becomes a special place to be visited within some annual events, such as Chinese New Year, Cap Go Meh, Cheng Beng or Kuo Ciet, and so on. Especially when Chinese New Year comes, the citizens of Pontianak, which are mainly Chinese, usually held special celebration and carnivals. There are lion dances, dragon dances, great fireworks all over the city, and other ritual ceremonies. Chinese people in Pontianak believes that if they participate in those ceremonies and carnivals in Chinese New Year Day, they will have a year full of luck and prosperity.

Furthermore, Pontianak is also famous for its delicious food. If you come to Pontianak, you should try bubur padas, lemang, cincalok, cai kue, kwe cap, kue kia theng, he keng, hoi co, and aloe vera drink. All of the food are made with special traditional recipes, spices, and ingredients. Because of the secrecy of those original and extraordinary recipes, not all people can make the food as tasty as the one you buy in Pontianak.

Because of those reasons, Pontianak is really worth visiting for, since Pontianak offers not only beautiful place and amazing sceneries to see, but also its unique delicacies and culture to be experienced by the visitors.
