The Controversial of Eavesdropping Program

The National Security Agency (NSA) is a part of the United States government, with goal to protect the United State people, by making codes and breaking codes. They collect information by eavesdropping, by listen to what people are saying in other countries, without letting the people know that they are listening. The NSA is also in charge of making sure that other countries do not eavesdrop on the United States. My opinion, the controversial eavesdropping program is not really useful for the country. In fact, there are many disadvantages factors by using this kind of program.
First, the eavesdropping program took the privacy of citizens in all country, including United States itself. The NSA's eavesdropping mission includes radio broadcasting, the internet, telephone calls, and other forms of communication. In other words, all of the activity based to communication technology is distributed to NSA. With recent technonolgy development, most of the communication within people is done through the telephone or internet. It means that most of the conversation is eavesdropped by the program. It conflicts with basic human right, because communication is linked to internal problems of daily life.
The advantage factor, eavesdropping program helps to detect terrorist and avert their plot. By eavesdrop people's conversation, NSA could predict the terrorist step and prevent it to happened. This way, NSA could secure the safety of the country. It means a lot, because the terrorist action could destroy the country balance in every aspect: economy, politic social and so on.

However, it is not easy to get the information of terrorist activity. By eavesdropping citizens of all country, the NSA would need a lot of time to analyze the information that related to the terrorist action. The reason, most of the information is circled around unimportant issues of people daily conversation. Even if it found, the information ussualy appears as codes that need to be solved in order to get the actual meaning behind it. It sure needs much time and hardwork, not to mention that the information the program is get might be fake as well.
Moreover, the country needs high budget to operate the eavesdropping machine program. NSA's budget for electricity exceeds US$31 million per year, making it the second largest electricity consumer in the entire state. Beside for using the budget for the eavesdropping program, it could be used for any other useful way, such as to increase the economic system, help poor people and so on. It also could be used to help other country that has financial problem, due to natural accident or maybe bacause of war. This would develop social relationship with other country, as well as economic and politic relationship. With good relationship, the country doesn't need to be afraid to the terrorist anymore, because the country has good mutual perspective among the world.
To conclude, the eavesdropping program is not really useful for the country. Even though it could help to detect terrorist, it conflicts with human rights because it takes people privacy. Top of that it needs high budget that could be used for other purpose instead.
