Television : Good and Bad

Television, piece of electrical equipment with a screen on which people can watch moving pictures and sounds, is widely used by people all over the world. Since it has become an almost primary need for family, we easily can find it in everyplace. But, behind all the joy that it gives, there are also some negative effects of television which is dangerous for family life.

Nowadays, most of tv stations received many criticism from different kinds of societies. That happens because today tv stations rarely broadcast a programme which has a good quality. The programme which is shown in television is judged as a non educative show and make people become consumptive. Moreover, someone said a shocking statement in his blog : “When I have a family in the future and the television programmes are still the same, or even worse than today, I would rather bring my family and my children to my village and live there with them, so that they will not be influenced by the ‘trash’ television programme in Indonesia.” It can be understood if the blog writer really feds up with this kind of situation because today most of television programmes are still dominated by the fake drama called ‘sinetron’ and also infotainment, which is said by Mario Teguh -a human resources consultant- is a non sense programme.

Yet, television is still the cheapest source of audio-visual entertainment and information for family. Since almost all families have had this equipment, they don’t really need to read the newspaper to know the latest news. In addition, they can also get the entertaining show easily.

All in all, television has two different sides. But, above all the good things that it gives, it still has more negative impact for the viewers and really dangerous for family life. So, in my opinion, we should be selective in choosing the television programme in order to reduce its bad sides for our family.
